The ÌÇÐÄVloge's women of color feminisms certificate is for students who have a strong interest in learning about the intellectual contributions, activism, and experiences of women of color but cannot complete the requirements for a major or minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

Study the Unique Experiences of Women of Color

Courses across many fields such as history, psychology, sociology, feminist theory, and literary studies examine the systemic, interlocking structures and politics of gender, race, sexuality, class, and nation in the lives of women of color. Learn how to broaden the definition and scope of feminism, build solidarity across minoritized communities, and make feminist engagement diverse and inclusive for all.

Students interested in careers such as international education, government or civil service, social work, teaching, community-organizing and human relations may find this certificate particularly useful. The certificate is intentionally designed so that you can pick and choose the classes that are most relevant to your interests — making it an excellent addition to any major.

Inspire Advocacy

Coursework throughout the program will address the struggles, resistances and achievements of women of color across a variety of scholarly disciplines as well as community organizing, advocacy, activism, and the visual and performing arts. This critical knowledge will provide you with tools and methods for applying non-oppressive practices in your daily life.

Examines the historical, systemic, and interlocking politics of gender, race, sexuality, class, and nation in the lives of U.S. Women of Color. Interdisciplinary writings are assigned, presenting Women of Color feminisms as a field, a framework, and a method.

African-American Feminism in the Humanities

Materials from several academic disciplines (women's, gender, and sexuality studies, English language and literature, history, and cultural studies) will examine feminist perspectives on various topics from an African-American standpoint.
